The San Diego Water Authority recently began constructing an addition to the San Vicente Dam. Completed in 1943, the dam was built in order to create a reservoir for municipal water storage, flood control and recreation. San Diego, California concrete companies are currently working on the 117-foot concrete extension to the 220-foot dam, which will double the amount of water the reservoir can hold. The $450 million project involves San Diego workers and concrete contractors installing 650,000 cubic yards of concrete, and will be the tallest dam raise in the United States as well as the tallest of its type in the world.
